International Schools Meteorology Competition and Live Rocket Launch Event in Germany
Oxygen recruited Ross Reynolds, a leading Professor of Meteorology, to design the Eumetsat Young Satellite Meteorologist Competition for students aged 15 to 16 across Europe. We built 27 versions of the competition website to run in 19 countries and 10 languages, and promoted it to schools via an international PR campaign and by recruiting the support of meteorological authorities in each country. Oxygen secured prize donors in each country and managed the whole competition process, which ran for five months and resulted in over 200 completed entries. The winners, from schools in Germany the UK, were invited to attend the live launch event at Eumetsat’s HQ and control centre in Germany.
Rocket LaunchThe launch event attracted 500 guests including staff, technicians, their families and VIPS from across Europe. Oxygen transformed the Eumetsat building’s five-story glass atrium with a tropical jungle theme to reflect the satellite’s Ariane rocket launch site - Kourou in French Guyana. The jungle set dressing, lighting and sound effects were complemented by French Caribbean music, food and dancing. The launch took place on time during the evening event and was watched live on screens via a satellite link spliced with interviews transmitted live from the control centre. |
